The Governance Effectiveness Review 2024/25

De ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ University Leicester (DMU) is pleased to announce the publication of the findings of its latest independent Governance Effectiveness Review. The review, which was conducted by Halpin during the 2024/25 academic year, represents a thorough examination of the university’s governance structures, processes, and culture.

The university welcomes the findings of Halpin’s review, who describe DMU’s governance practices as ‘predominately ‘good’ to ‘leading edge’’ and believe that ‘DMU is a well-governed institution with dedicated and experienced members of the Board of Governors and Executive’ (the University Leadership Board).

The review commended DMU across a range of areas as well as identifying a number of recommendations and suggestions as to how the university might develop its practices and processes even further. These recommendations and suggestions have been drawn together into an action plan, the implementation of which has already begun.

The findings of the review, and the action plan, were considered by the Board of Governors at meetings in May and November 2025. Ian Squires, Chair of the Board of Governors, noted that ‘The findings of the Halpin review recognise clearly DMU’s strong foundations in terms of governance as well as its unremitting focus on best practice and continual improvement. The board is looking forward to seeing further developments in this area as the university continues to move towards being fully leading edge in the coming years’.

The findings of the Halpin review, and the associated action plan, can be found below alongside copies of previous reviews conducted by Advance HE in 2019 and 2022.
