POGO: Postgraduate Group on Campus

The Postgraduate Group on Campus (or ‘POGO’) is a monthly face-to-face discussion forum for taught postgraduates, postgraduate research students and DMU staff. The sessions focus on different aspects of study and research, with the opportunity to explore ideas and share practices. Postgraduate study and scholarship is at the cutting edge of human knowledge. The Postgraduate Group on Campus is designed for those postgrad students who want to look beyond the confines of their own discipline, profession or programme of study in order to share practices and perspectives and learn from other scholars and researchers across the university. It is an opportunity to expand horizons and see the world from a different point of view.

Writing Circle

The Writing Circle is DMU’s regular social writing group for research students and staff. It is primarily a space to get writing done, so most of the time will be spend actually writing. We make use of the ‘pomodoro technique’, which involves focused writing in 25 minute blocks, followed by 5 minutes rest to chat, and then another 25 minute pomodoro. The first part of the session is usually devoted to meeting/greeting one another, sharing our writing goals and any progress we have made, and/or any barriers we are facing. From this, we often take the opportunity to share experiences, offer tips and advice, or simply listen to one another.
